Exploiting ‘Metasploitable’

Metasploitable is an Ubuntu server virtual machine prepared by the nice folks at Metasploit to give us something to play with.
Here’s how I root’ed it, there are many other different ways. There are services I don’t even get round to looking at. I’d be interested to hear how others managed it in the comments.
I used a combination of nmap, metasploit framework 3, medusa and my brain. Some of the tools used were loaded into a BackTrack 4 virtualmachine.
